International Medical Corps is now accepting applications from emerging GBV specialists for the eight-day, in-person training titled the ‘Managing Gender-Based Violence Programs in Emergencies Training Course’ scheduled for late January 2020. The training is part of the MGBViE global learning program that aims to increase the number of GBV specialists in complex emergencies and is funded through the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.

The training is scheduled for January 29 - February 6, 2020 (exact dates will be determined later) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Training participants will learn to develop and lead programmes that are appropriate to context, time frames, and organizational capacity, as well as responsive to gender differences. Considerations for program planning include appropriate staff and volunteer profiles, possible service entry points, and potential barriers/risks to service access across different populations.

About the training course:

  • Aims to build professional competencies in the field of GBV in emergency contexts.
  • The training curriculum covers a GBV-focused “toolkit” including: psychosocial support, case management, health, social behaviour change, working with men & boys, security & legal/justice, and advocacy, among other topics.
  • Other aspects of GBV programme management, including programme models and approaches, assessment, M&E, and HR, will also be covered.
  • Participants must design context-appropriate program plans.
  • Aims to benefit crisis-affected populations at-risk of/who have experienced GBV through increased capacity for GBV prevention and response.

Target participants:

  • Emerging specialists, specifically those who would lead GBV prevention and response in emergency settings. An emerging GBV specialist is someone who demonstrates an interest in managing GBV prevention and response programs, meets basic academic and communication standards to work with an implementing humanitarian organization, etc. More information can be found in the Call for Applications.
  • Additional emphasis will be placed on individuals representing local organizations.

Due to a limted number of slots, thecourse is only intended for individuals who committed to managing focused GBV prevention and response programmes in humanitarian settings.
